Nothing is For Dinner

I strive for variety but I feel like I make the same stupid things for dinner all the time. I know in reality I don't but I am sick of my menus.
What I am also sick of? This conversation:

Me: I am going to the grocery store, do you want anything particular for dinner this week?
Husband: no
Me: anything you have a craving for? Any suggestions?
Husband: No
Me; Well, maybe you can think of something you would like because planning, buying and cooking dinner 6 nights out of the week is bleeding me dry.
Husband: Well how about tacos or hot dogs?
Me: goodbye

This is the dialog we have every week or so. I don't know why I persist. He always suggests hot dogs or tacos, which by the way, eww.

Maybe if I do a weeks worth of dinners that are not his favorites, he will suddenly have an opinion.
Or maybe roasted chicken it is.
Again.

  1. I stand in front of my husband for at least twenty minutes trying to get him to suggest something for dinner or the grocery. It's almost ridiculous. And it happens everyday for dinner.
So I feel your pain. We should smack them upside the head for this...

  2. I had a craving for Shake and Bake pork chops yesterday. They were so good. Reminds me of being a kid. Oh yeah and you have to get Au gratin potatoes in a box to go with them. No wonder I am so fat!

  3. Amanda, scalloped potato in a box is my favorite. It reminds me of my grandmother. Yum.

Roasted chicken.. sounds familiar! Except probably 9 times out of 10 lately if I ask my husband what he wants for dinner he asks if we can have the chicken. Now, I like the chicken, but can't he BRANCH OUT already! He kind of gets obsessed with favorites. When I get tired of the chicken and make something else that's not part of the regular menu I'm sure it will become his next "must have" dinner.

Be careful what you wish for. My husband has no problem telling me what he wants for dinner and that's what we eat 9 times out of 10.

  7. It's bad because neither my husband nor I ever have any ideas for dinner. Added to that, we are kind of lazy around the kitchen. We end up eating a lot of cereal and sandwiches! I wish at least one of us had a little motivation and drive when it comes to cooking. Or else that we could afford a really great live-in chef.

  8. I love tacos but my son hates them. I would eat them a lot if he let me.

Me: What would you like for (insert meal here)?

Him: Anything you feel like making.

    Me: (Roll eyes...again.)

This is too funny...we start out with the MamaLee convo, then because no one has a good enough answer, we end up ala Angela! LOL

I do like to cook, but only really on the weekends when I can take the time to plan a menu and cook for leisure/relaxation. Not so much during the week...

  11. Ever since adopting the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace Plan...I have been doing dinner at home every night of the week and I so hear you! It's hard to come up with new stuff night after night after night. Hubby is okay with most things it's the Little Man that drives me crazy.

I have been doing my week's menu plan and posting it on the fridge so that I know what needs to be defrosted and what not. It's helped me resist the urge to call out for pizza.

I HATE this! I ask the same questions and get the same responses, only I get "I don't care". Some days I want to say, you are ON YOUR OWN and eat a bowl of cereal in front of him!
