Own vs. Rent

So? I was grumpy yesterday, I am allowed. This has been a long hot summer already and we are one day into it. The guy who was checking me out at a red light yesterday helped, especially because I had two kids in the back seat, which, let's face it, is usually a cock blocker.

Did I mention that our fish finally died? The goldfish we got before Halloween died last week and the kids still haven't noticed. Poor fellow, I can't believe how long he lived.

Oh I need some summer reads. Really, becoming a mother has killed my book habit cold, unless you count reading books about ladybugs and spiderman's adventures 34 times a day reading. I want my 3 book a week addiction like I had pre-kids.
I really should go to the library, but that pesky Barnes & Noble keeps calling me back. I love book stores, I love the smell of them, I love cracking a new book's spine. I love that the book is mine. I don't like to borrow books, and I hate those plastic covers on library books. Library books are f-r-e-e though and that sounds nice to me. I just can't help buying books though and I have boxes of old read and reread books to sell at a garage sale someday. It doesn't help that I have a B&N and Borders less then a mile from my home.

So come on, recommend a book or two for me this summer, it can be anything fiction, beach reads, non fiction, whatever you think I have to read.
This is going to be fun, like the summers in elementary school where I was the book club and in second grade I read 80 books over the summer.
Yes, I was a dork.

  1. Well, from the pics I have seen of you, I could definitely see myself careening into the back of the car in front of me while I ogled you walking down the sidewalk.

  2. Check out the recent novels by Megan McCafferty. I just read Charmed Thirds and didn't realize until I was done that it was the third in a series of one character (Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings).

I just picked up two new novels at Target to bring for some beach reading. I can't remember the names of either, but I'll let you know when I get back.

I just finished The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier. If you like historical romances or liked Girl with a Pearl Earring, you'll like this.

  6. Have you read The Devil Wears Prada? That's a beach read right there...yeah, I know they made a movie of it but I have yet to see it and the descriptive writing of the bitch boss is awesome and funny.

Jude Devereaux's "The Summerhouse" is BEYOND fantastic. It explores whether we'd change some of the choices we've made if given the opportunity. I've always loved her romance books but this one is my absolute favorite.

I read between 2-4 novels a week so if you want I'll ship you some. They're piling up EVERYWHERE. Seriously

  8. I'm currently engrossed in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. (And some Pride and Prejudice "sequels" - not sure why, but I can't get enough of these lately LOL). I can definitely second The Devil Wears Prada suggestion as well. :)

What kind of books did you like to read when you had a 3 books a week habit?

  9. I have read the Devil Wears Prada and loved it.
I love all kinds of books, although I am not too into romantic/fabio cover books.

In the summer I usually like light, easy reads.
thank you guys for all of your suggestions!

  11. 20 Times a Lady by Karen Bosnak - cute, funny, and super-quick read. Either of Jen Lancasters memoirs (Bitter is the New Black is the better of the two).

    Good Grief by Lolly Winston.

    Have fun!

  12. You want to read "Heart Shaped Box" by Joe Hill. He is the son of Stephen and Tabitha King. The book is a little scary, but that's how I like them.
